Playskool GO-BOTS are Pure Love Fansite
This guide highlights the differences between similar toys, mainly between the American and Japanese releases. There are a number of holes here; any additional information anyone can give me would be appreciated.

AERO-BOT II versus KID

Look at the painted Autobot symbol:

Aerobot II's is a dark orangish-red...
...but Kid's is light orange.

AEROBOT versus MICHAEL
The real difference here is on the wings and tailfins:

Aerobot's are solid blue...
...while Michael's have orange paint detailing.

BUZZER-BOT versus BILLY
The most obvious difference between these two:

Buzzer-Bot's back is solid purple...
...while Billy's back has a yellow stripe.

CHARLIE CHOPPER versus CHOPPER
In helicopter mode:

Charlie Chopper has the word "Tonka" on his side, and the letter "A" on his tailfin...
...while Chopper has his name on his side, and an Autobot symbol on his tail.

CHEETOR versus CHUCK

The robot head is the most obvious difference:

Cheetor's is red...
...while Chuck's is yellow.

The differences are more subtle in beast mode:

Cheetor has red outer thighs and an Autobot symbol on his left shoulder...
...while Chuck's thighs and shoulder are merely spotted.

FIRE-BOT versus ROBERT
The only real difference is the robot head:

Fire-Bot has silver eyes and mouthpiece...
...while Robert has yellow eyes and a brown mouthpiece.

GORILLABOT versus MAX
These two are easy to tell apart:

Except for on their heads, everywhere that Gorillabot has green paint...
...Max has silver paint.

MIRAGE-BOT versus PAUL

Visually, the toys are identical.
But Paul has a Japanese voice chip.

POLICEMAN PETE versus PEAT
In vehicle mode:

Policeman Pete has "Tonka" printed on his side, and a "P" on his door...
...while Peat has his name on his side, and an Autobot symbol on his door.

PROWL-BOT versus SMITH

The sure-fire way to tell is by the hubcaps:

Prowl-Bot's are unpainted...
...while Smith's are painted silver.

Also, the robot knees:

Prowl-Bot's are black...
...Smith's are white.

REPTRON versus GREG
Reptron's thighs are solid orange...
...while Greg's thighs have blue stripes.

RESCUE ROY versus ROY

In fire truck mode:

Rescue Roy has the word "Tonka" molded on his side, and a Tonka sticker on his door...
...while Roy has blank sides and an Autobot symbol on his door.

And in robot mode:

Rescue Roy has "Tonka" molded on his waist...
...while Roy's waist is blank.

SCRAP-BOT versus RANDY
These two are nearly identical except for their hands:

Scrap-Bot has bulldozer scoops...
...while Randy has steamroller halves.

Scrap-Bot also has the Go-Bot "G" symbol...
...while Randy wears the Autobot symbol.

SILVERBOLT versus J.J.

Check the red plastic:

Silverbolt's is relatively dull and darkish...
...while J.J.'s is a bright, candy red.

SPEED-BOT II versus PAUL JR.
UNCONFIRMED!
The robot shoulders are the key here:

Speed-Bot II's are metallic blue...
...while Paul Jr.'s are silver.

SPEEDBOT versus TED
The headlights are a dead giveaway:

Speedbot has silver lights...
...while Ted has green ones.

STRONG-BOT versus BECK

No differences; toys are identical.

STRONG-BOT (dump truck) versus GONG
Strong-Bot has the Go-Bot "G" symbol on his shoulder, and a tiny one above his grill...
...while Gong has only the Autobot symbol on his shoulder.

TIGERTRON versus GEORGE

Again, the obvious difference is the head:

Tigertron's is blue...
...while George's is orange.

In tiger mode:

Tigertron has the Go-Bot "G" symbol on his left shoulder and 4 stripes on each thigh...
...while George sports the Autobot symbol and has only 2 stripes per thigh.
